Picnic facility and performance stage located in Hubbard Park. The shelter and stage are reserved as a package. This facility is administered by the Parks and Trees Department.Located on top of a grassy hill with a beautiful view, the Old Shelter is near a performance stage, combined soccer and softball field and, in the winter months, right next to the sledding hill. This shelter includes picnic tables, some of which are ADA-accessible, a fireplace, a water fountain (summer only) and a grill. There is a composting toilet at the shelter, and another one at the stage. The Old Shelter and the Tuning Forks Stage are rented as a unit as they are directly adjacent to one another. They cannot be reserved separately. This shelter is accessed via a grassy hill or a set of stairs. Note that the access road to the Old Shelter is closed in the winter so those using/reserving the shelter must walk in from the bottom of the sledding hill. Additionally, if you’re reserving the shelter during mud season, the park roads may be closed. Check the City of Montpelier Parks and Trees facebook page for any road closures: https://www.facebook.com/MontpelierParks.
If you plan to use the shelter without making a reservation, please check the reservation kiosk by the shelter stairs to make sure it has not already been reserved.
